This Saturday, East Meets Beats (EMB) returns with its 33rd installment, happening at the Democracy Center in Cambridge, MA.

East Meets Beats, the EMW Bookstore offshoot event for all things music production and DJ related, rings in the new year with a stellar lineup of artists who will be bumping beats all night for your dancing pleasure. Featured artists include Ra Low, KNZO, Hollowz (EMB’s very own organizer), and headliner Kansado (who is celebrating the release of his new EP “Futuro Tumbao” and his recent signing to the label Darker Than Wax).

Ludjy “Hollowz” Derisier, EMB’s organizer for the past two years, shared his excitement with us.

“People can expect a wide variety of beat scene music from jazzy hip-hop tunes that make you bob your head to trappy future beats bangers,” he said. “For starters, Kansado’s new EP is a super interesting mix of percussion and horns and I’m curious to see how he’s going to be performing his set because in the past, he’s done a lot of his performance live! I’m also curious in seeing how KNZO performs his beats and what type of vibe he’s going to bring. I’ve heard a lot of his music on SoundCloud but I’m sure he also has a ton of interesting tracks that he’s been hiding away.”

Hollowz also notes that for those who have never attended an EMB event, the usual format involves a few opening remarks and launches straight into sets by the performers, each lasting 30-45 minutes.

“The vibe is very relaxed and very supportive. I think one of the biggest draws of EMB is the ability to get rid of that separation between performers and audience. We’re all here to jam out, experiment, and have a great time with each other.”

East Meets Beats happens this Saturday from 8:30-11:30 PM at 45 Mount Auburn Street in Cambridge, MA 02138.
