Connor Donovan is a local musician from Cambridge, MA, who is starting to make ripples on the music scene in a large way. I’m not quite sure where to start with this song because there are so many interesting parts to it. First, I would like to take my hat off to Connor for his ability to combine hip-hop style lyrics with such an unconventional beat. This style of song creation has become a lost art, but this track proves its existence. His tune, “Gone Too Long” starts out slow, easing you into the musical mood necessary for listening to this song. The simple and soothing introduction gives you an impression that it will be yet another trendy synth song with a catchy chorus, but then he starts spitting pure poetry. The verse is the best part because it changes the entire dynamic of the song. The lyrics contain an ode to the reminiscence of lost love and breakups with a unique perspective. He is only 21 years old and we hope to see a long and impressive career in his future, which will help solidify Boston’s place in the global music scene.
